Shaving

Shaving is the commonest method of depilation in the world.  Using a very sharp blade, hair is cut down to be flush with the skin.  However the slightest regrowth means that the hairs start to stand proud and therefore can be felt and seen - particularly if the hairs are dark.  Therefore shaving has to be repeated regularly.

Shaving is only suitable for areas that are easily accessible and where the skin is reasonably flat and tense.  Skin irregularities can cause cuts.  Safety razors have been developed to try to reduce these.
