Plucking or tweezing

Individual hairs can be plucked out using tweezers - hence the use by beauticians of the term "tweezing".  Plucking or tweezing the hair removes not only the offending hair but also be attached hair bulb from the follicle.  This stops the hair growing back again for some weeks and gives a smooth finish.  However as hairs are removed individually, each one can be quite tender and a whole patch may be quite time consuming.

As such plucking or tweezing is usually reserved the individual hairs on the face or ears.

Threading is a very skilled and interesting version of plucking.  A thin strand of cotton is usually held between one hand and the teeth.  The second-hand is used to take the central part of the strand and twist it.  By skilful manipulation, hairs can be caught in the crossover between the strands and plucked out.
